28 Dr-Light ile yollarınız nasıl kesişti? Bu projede neden onları tercih ettiniz? Dr-Light ile iş birliğimiz, aslında “aynı dili konuşabilmemizle” başladı. Bir mimar olarak karşınızda sadece ürün satan değil, tasarıma kafa yoran bir partner istersiniz. Dr-Light ekibiyle masaya oturduğumuzda, benim ne hayal ettiğimi çok iyi anladılar. Özellikle o tarihi duvarlarda kullanacağımız apliklerin duruşu, sarkıtların o yüksek tavanı nasıl dolduracağı çok kritikti. Dr-Light’ın hem teknik hakimiyeti hem de ürünlerinin o rafine çizgisi, benim aradığım o “modern ama saygılı” duruşla birebir örtüştü. Kullandığınız ürünlerin mekâna kattığı en büyük “tat” ne oldu sizce? Bence en büyük katma değer, ışığın mekânla kurduğu o “ölçülü” ilişki. Ne çok bağırıyor ne de sönük kalıyor. Duvar aplikleri o tarihi taşları dramatize ederken, sarkıtlar mekânın o devasa ölçeğini insan ölçeğine indirmemize yardımcı oldu. Doğru lamba değerleri sayesinde, çalışanlar için göz yormayan, konforlu bir ortam oluştu ama aynı zamanda binanın karakteri de sahneye çıktı. O dengeyi yakalamak zordur, biz bunu başardık. Tasarımından uygulamasına kadar her aşamada bizzat sizin imzanızın olması projeye ne kattı? Bu benim için olmazsa olmaz. Tasarladığınız şeyi sahada birebir yönetmek, o hayalin gerçeğe eksiksiz dönüşmesini sağlıyor. Kağıt üzerinde (veya ekranda) gördüğünüz detayla, şantiyedeki gerçeklik bazen çatışabilir. Hem tasarımcı hem uygulayıcı olduğumda, o anında müdahaleleri yapabiliyorum. “Bu taşın birleşimi böyle olmalı” dediğimde, o öyle oluyor. Bu bütüncül kontrol, projenin sonunda o “tamamlanmışlık” hissini veriyor. Mercan Holding Ana Merkez Ofisi’nin IF Awards’ta finale kalması... Bu başarı size ne hissettiriyor? Gurur verici tabii ki. IF Awards gibi global ve prestijli bir platformda, böylesine yüksek bir puanla finale kalmak, yaptığımız işin doğruluğunun bir kanıtı. Özellikle bir “adaptive reuse” projesiyle, yani tarihi bir dönüşümle bu takdiri görmek beni ayrıca mutlu ediyor. Demek ki geçmişe saygı duyarak geleceği tasarladığınızda, bu çaba dünyanın her yerinde karşılık buluyor. Şimdi heyecanla sonucu bekliyoruz ama finale kalmak bile bizim için büyük bir ödül. How did your collaboration with Dr-Light begin? Why did you choose them for this project? Our collaboration with Dr-Light began with the fact that we spoke the same language. As an architect, you want not just a supplier, but a partner who thinks about design. When we sat down together, the Dr-Light team understood exactly what I envisioned. The stance of the wall sconces on the historic walls and how the pendants would fill those high ceilings were critical. Dr-Light’s technical expertise and the refined character of their products perfectly aligned with the “modern yet respectful” approach I was seeking. What was the greatest contribution of the products you used to the space? I would say the greatest added value lies in the measured relationship light establishes with the architecture. It neither shouts nor fades away. The wall sconces dramatize the historic stone surfaces, while the pendants help scale the vast volume down to a human dimension. Thanks to the correct lumen values and color temperatures, we achieved a comfortable, eye-friendly working environment while simultaneously bringing the building’s character to the forefront. Achieving that balance is difficult—we succeeded. What did it add to the project that your signature was present at every stage, from design to execution? For me, that is indispensable. Managing the project on-site ensures that the vision translates into reality without compromise. What you see on paper—or on screen—can sometimes conflict with on-site conditions. Being both designer and implementer allows me to intervene instantly. When I say, “This stone joint should be resolved this way,” it happens that way. This holistic control ultimately creates that sense of completeness. The Mercan Holding Headquarters was shortlisted for the iF Awards… How does this achievement make you feel? It is, of course, a source of pride. Being shortlisted with such a high score on a global and prestigious platform like the iF Design Award is validation that we are on the right path. Receiving this recognition particularly for an adaptive reuse project—a historic transformation—makes me especially happy. It shows that when you design the future with respect for the past, that effort resonates worldwide. We are now eagerly awaiting the final result, but even being a finalist is already a great award for us.
