- 5 - Agop Dülgar As I do my daily work in the office of our factory, the sounds of hammering suddenly catch my attention. I love this voice that many will find uncomfortable; for this voice conjures up my most beautiful and warmest memories. I feel as if I’m teleported to 50 years ago and I find myself in my father Ohan Dülgar’s little blacksmith workshop... When I was at school, I was looking forward to the coming of the summer months like everyone else. The reason for my impatience was different from my friends who made plans such as swimming and playing games during the long summer vacation. Summer for me, meant my father’s workshop. In the workshop, I would watch my father and other masters beat and shape iron and copper with their hammers, helping as much as I could. As I got older, hammer, chisel, copper and iron became my play dough. I still remember the taste of the cold sodas we drank with my father after long shifts on hot days. “The trick to this job is to be patient and watch the masters,” my father used to say. So I did that. I watched them for years and learned traditional production methods. When I founded Dülgarsan Aydınlatma in 1982, my biggest capital was this accumulation of knowledge. What I had in mind was to blend this craft, which I inherited from my family, with contemporary production techniques and technologies. I set out on this road to bring innovation to the lighting industry with domestic production, aesthetic and ergonomic designs. With the brand Dr-Light, we have come a long way on this path. Until today, in project-based works, we have provided special services to our customers, consisting mainly of architecture, interior architecture, construction and investment companies, with our high quality and accessible local production lighting. We have provided the lighting systems of many hotels, shopping malls, offices and residences both in Turkey and abroad with our aesthetic, high quality and stylish lighting designs. In this process, we developed our production standards and offered alternative solutions to projects in various industries in technical and decorative lighting. We Have Always Grown Wi th The Dr-Light Brand With the opening of our İstanbul Central Showroom in 2006, our brand took its first step in the field of “Professional Retail”. Since that day; all of the designs belonging to our collections from past to present are exhibited in our İstanbul Center Showroom, along with our professional team and concepts that have been renewed and modernized. Through serving more housing projects with our professional retail understanding, we reach the end user with our specialized designs that carry the signature of Dr-Light. In line with our aim to deliver our local products to more people, we have further expanded our family, with our dealers and sales points located in various parts of Turkey since 2017. Half a century has passed since the summers I have spend in my father Ohan Dülgar’s small workshop. During this time, I have seen and learned that every hammer strike against copper also shapes the human soul. Every work that man does by adding his soul is art in my understanding. As the Dr-Light family, this is exactly what we aim to accomplish: We shed light on the future with the values we have taken from tradition.
